New Delhi: Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal has described the India–United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) as the beginning of a new chapter in the economic relationship between the two countries, saying the agreement lays a strong foundation for deeper trade and investment ties.
He said that as two major and complementary economies, India and the United Kingdom have created the framework for a stronger, more dynamic and mutually beneficial partnership through the landmark trade agreement.
Highlighting the industry’s response on the first day of the agreement’s implementation, Agrawal noted that several export consignments from India were dispatched under the CETA framework across multiple sectors. According to him, the early momentum demonstrates that Indian businesses are well prepared to capitalise on the market access and commercial opportunities created by the agreement.
The Commerce Secretary said the government’s immediate priority is to ensure the effective implementation of the CETA so that its benefits translate into increased bilateral trade, stronger business collaborations, higher employment generation and sustained economic growth for both India and the United Kingdom.
He expressed confidence that the agreement would significantly strengthen economic engagement between the two nations while providing fresh opportunities for exporters, manufacturers and businesses on both sides.
